Brown Fused Alumina Micropowder Applications

Brown Fused Alumina Micropowder Applications

Brown fused alumina (BFA) micropowder features high toughness, Mohs hardness 8.5–9, stable chemical performance and free of free silica. the main applications as follows:

1. Precision Grinding & Polishing

–Metal Processing

  • Deburring, fine grinding and mirror polishing for stainless steel, alloy steel, cast iron, hardware stampings, cutting tools, precision shafts, valve parts, 3C metal frames and mobile phone casings.
  • Used to produce polishing paste, polishing liquid and grinding suspension for mass wet polishing of medical cutting tools and precision mechanical parts; low-iron grades avoid rust spots on workpieces.

–Non-metallic Finishing

Fine grinding and scratch removal for glass, ceramic tile, sanitary ware, jade, stone and carbon fiber composites.

–Electronics & Photovoltaics

  • PCB surface roughening, rough grinding of silicon wafers and SiC substrates; deburring lithium battery aluminum shells and electrode sheets.
  • Ultra-fine finishing for optical lenses and ceramic electronic packaging components to achieve low surface roughness.

2. Blasting & Surface Pretreatment

Free of hazardous free silica, suitable for dry and wet blasting:
  • Rust removal, oxide layer cleaning and matte finishing for steel structures, ships, aluminum & copper profiles.
  • Clear carbon deposits and release agent residues on casting and die-casting molds to restore dimensional accuracy.
  • Form uniform matte texture on hardware workpieces and improve adhesion of paints, coatings and electroplating layers.
  • Anticorrosion pretreatment for bridges and construction machinery parts.

3. Raw Material for Bonded & Coated Abrasives

–Bonded Abrasives

Key aggregate for ceramic/resin grinding wheels, oil stones, mounted points and honing sticks. Ideal for heavy-duty metal cutting due to excellent toughness and low grain breakage rate.

–Coated Abrasives

Micron-grade raw material for sandpaper, emery cloth and abrasive belts for sheet & pipe grinding.

–Tumbling Media

Filler for vibratory and centrifugal polishing machines for mass finishing of small hardware parts.

4. High-Grade Refractory Materials

Refractoriness ≥2100°C, outstanding wear and thermal shock resistance:
  • Aggregate for corundum castables, wear-resistant spray coatings and ramming mixes used in steel plants, industrial kilns and heat treatment furnaces.
  • Additive for corundum refractory bricks, crucibles and kiln furniture to boost compressive strength and erosion resistance.

5. Investment Casting

For silica sol and water glass investment casting processes:
  • Facing and intermediate layer slurry powder for mould shells, improving casting surface finish and reducing sand holes and burrs.
  • Widely adopted in stainless steel, aluminum alloy and superalloy precision casting to guarantee high dimensional tolerance.

6. Electronic & Structural Ceramics

  • Raw material for ceramic capacitors, insulating ceramics, high-voltage porcelain bases with superior insulation, heat resistance and mechanical strength.
  • Fabrication of ceramic filters, wear-resistant ceramic liners and ceramic pump valve components.

7. Wear-resistant Filler & Protective Coatings

–Industrial Coatings

Additive for ship anti-corrosion paint, wear-resistant floor paint and heavy-duty bridge coatings to enhance surface hardness, scratch and abrasion resistance of film layers.

–Thermal Spray Powders

Ceramic protective coating feedstock for aero-engine blades and high-temperature components to resist abrasion and high-temperature oxidation.

–Composite Reinforcement Filler

Filling material for automobile brake pads, special rubber, wear-resistant floorings and artificial wear-resistant boards to stabilize friction performance and extend service life.
